Day 0 |
Day Before Workshop |
Reflection 1
Wow, what a glacier and the 2 people give perspective and show the magnificence of the location.

Day 1 |
Portrait
A little character. Not your typical perfect looking eagle.
Kachemak Bay
Always look behind you. Should have used a higher MP body. The water got so glassy.
(P1000) 24 mm equiv.
Flying 2
No shortage of these kind of shots. That's why we went to Alaska.
Otter & Octopus
(Yum)
Very unique shot. At first we didn't know who was eating who. The octopus was still alive as he tried to squirt the otter. Missed that shot.
Flying 4
Getting the white head in front of the dark wing works.
Glacier
Just awe inspiring.
Otters
Somehow these guys
were in a golden light.
(P1000) 1800 mm equiv.
2 Eagles
Hard to believe this was taken with a 16 MP P&S.
(P1000) 625 mm equiv.
Day 2 |
Forest
My first attempt at an environmental shot.
Portrait
Young eagles are beautiful but hard to capture their beauty.
Flying 3
Otters 2
Hi guys... Mom & pup. Pup seems to be almost as big as mom.
2 Flying 1
Eagles really are iconic. I got 2 of this kind of shot.
Icicles
I was the only photog even thinking of shooting icicles on the shore line. It seemed like a slam dunk.
Harbor Seals
With the surrounding so dark and gloomy, these guys really stood out.
(P1000) 1,080 mm equiv.
Day 3 |
Mountain Goat
This is not generally a common image from the water. He hung around and posed for awhile.
Weasel
You see and learn something new every day. He's not much bigger than the mussels on the rocks.
Flying 5
In Tree
These trees really stood out from shorelines of mostly evergreen trees.
2 Eagles 2
Fighting for position to catch a fish.
Seagull Scrum
Kind of like a Natl. Geo. experience.
Some yahoo drove his speed boat through the scrum and broke it up.
Flying 6
Eagle eye.
Scenic
Sometimes you just have to be aware of your surroundings and look around.
(P1000) 50 mm equiv.
Diving
I really never did get an eagle arching around to dive bomb for a fish but I got close.
Scenic Eagle
Laying in the back of the boat with a wide angle and shooting as the birds flew by.

Day 4 |
Shore side
Nothing like a pier to protect from a 28 foot tide.
Landing on Rocks
Flying 7
Rock cliff in background.
Not Happy
This young guy was showing some emotion.
Portrait 2
This is my favorite image.
The detail and nuance of the color are very subtle.
In Grass
The grass makes the image.
Flying 9
Unique head position. Only one like this in 7,500 images.
Flying 10
Liked the background of the cliff.
Day 5 |
(Lots more flying eagles) |
Scenic 2
The leader of our group pointed this out.
Didn't seem like much of an image at the time but really glad I captured it. Kind of minimalistic.
On Beach 2
Flying 9
Flying 14
I like environmental shots and I think this qualifies with the background.
Day 0 |
On beach at Land End Hotel (More images before workshop) |
Beach
Prior to the start of the workshop, did some shooting in front of my hotel room.
People laughed at me on the beach but his was the only sunset during the entire trip.
Day 0 |
Homer Split Ship Bone Yard |
Ship Bone Yard
Really freaky location. Kind of twilight zone.
Also some hippies living in a couple of the grounded boats.
Ropes & Floats
Fish Hooks
Marina
Really beautiful marina.
Mostly commercial fishing vessels and a few USCG vessels thrown in.
